Sometimes smooth mesh (Num 3 button) in Autodesk Maya (3d software) is not working properly for me.so I solved that problem in this way.
1.Go to Attribute editor window (Ctrl+A) as shown in the image below,In Shape Node (pPlaneShape2) -Under Smooth Mesh -Drop Down List Box- Turn On Smooth Mesh Preview check box and select Smooth Mesh radio button
2.Then in Subdivision Levels -Drop Down List Box- increase Preview Division Levels as you desire and make sure Use Preview Level For Rendering check box is ON.
